It’s Novak-ing Joke

Channel Nine’s broadcaster Tony Jones has apologised to Novak Djokovic after comments he made live at the Aussie Open were not well received by the Serbian, who has decided to boycott the channel’s coverage of the tournament. Novak refused to give his usual on-court interview with Jim Courier after winning on Sunday and then explained that he would not be speaking to the broadcasters until Jones apologized.

Tony Jones said that while he didn’t intend to offend the tennis player or his Serbian fans, he realised his words had pissed off many people and was truly sorry. Despite this, Djokovic has so far refused to back down on not doing interviews with Channel Nine, saying that the need for respect and understanding between the media and tennis players need to improve. The problem arose as the former Australian Open champ, who aiming for his 11th win, claimed that Jones mocked Serbian fans and made insulting comments about him during a show on last Friday night.

Jones has now claimed that he had reached out to Djokovic and his team to apologise for what he considered a bit of banter which he thought was just a bit of fun. However, he was told by Tennis Australia, from Team Novak, that they were unhappy with his comments. You can say what you like, but it’s always lively when Novak comes down under! In other Australian Open tennis news, our number one men’s player, Alex de Minaur, has made it through into the second week of the tournament, hopefully his good form continues.

Trump Coin

Also, trending in the news this week, over in the US, it’s a busy time for Donald Trump, who has released his own crypto currency, $Trump, and now he is looking to reverse the ban of TikTok which has just taken effect across the whole of the USA. Back in Australia, the Melbourne Stars have pulled off a miracle to reach the BBL finals after overcoming this year’s top side, Hobart Hurricanes, mainly thanks to some incredible batting by Glenn Maxwell at the MCG on Sunday. Finally, this week, Ange Postecoglou is under even more pressure as Tottenham manager after his side lost to Everton 3-2, leaving Spurs sitting in 15th place on the ladder.
