After plenty of controversy since becoming the head of LIV Golf, Greg Norman has admitted that he doesn’t reckon he’ll be in the role for much longer, as the sport looks to be having a shake-up in 2025. Meanwhile, in NRL news, it has been confirmed that Papua New Guinea is set to have a team playing in the tournament. PNG will enter the tournament in 2028, with the Western Bears, based in Perth, set to join the competition in 2027.

With just over a month to go until Triple J announces its Hottest 100 rundown, Chappel Roan, Hozier and Billie Ellish have been installed as current favourites to win it. Talking of hot, we’ve a new sprinting superstar on the scene who could become the next Usain Bolt! So, let’s get into the hot topics, Aussie sports news, and the latest entertainment updates.

Matildas bring Macha Glory
The recent rise in demand for matcha tea in Melbourne cafes has meant that supplies are such that locals are having to revert to enjoying the fine range of coffees which the city is renowned for. Also, in Melbourne, we saw the next generation of Matildas making names for themselves as our women beat Chinese Taipei 3-1. It was a great result for the A-League, as all three goal-scorers came from the local sides, the side then followed up on the weekend with a 6-0 win in Geelong. Talking of winning, our Aussie Men thumped India by 10 wickets in the second Test at Adelaide, thanks to a wonderful century by local boy Travis Head.

So, let’s get into the hot topics, Aussie sports news, and the latest entertainment updates.

Despite the heavy rain, the Renegades defeated the Brisbane Heat and won the WBBL for the first time. With a reduced target of 98 from 12 overs, the Melbourne side held on to win at the MCG. The 2024 ARIA Awards Night was at Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, with Troye Sivan bagging the two biggest awards. Aussie star Missy Higgins, who just celebrated 20 years since her debut album and scored a chart-topping hit with her sixth, was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame this year.
Rich Pickings for Tigers
The first round of the 2024 AFL Draft was completed at Marvel Stadium last week, with Richmond looking to have come away with the best picks as it landed Sam Lalor and Josh Smillie. Elsewhere, many fans are fuming as the Brisbane Lions have selected Levi Ashcroft under the father-son-rule. In effect, the best player in the draft is joining the reigning premiers…
In NRL news, as Penrith goes looking for a 5-peat, it will kick off its season taking on Cronulla over in Las Vegas. The highlight of round 1 could be the Dolphins v Rabbitohs match, which sees Wayne Bennett returning to Brisbane to take on his former team.
Aussie Tennis News

Ahead of next year’s Australian Open, former player Andy Murray has been chosen by Novak Djokovic as his coach. Joe Fortune bringing you my ‘Quick Week in Review’ for 11th November – 17th November 2024. With the Wallabies winning again, a shock departure from Triple M and the 2025 Origin fixtures having been confirmed, it’s been another hectic week! So, let’s get into the hot topics, Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Bye Bye Barry
Starting in entertainment news, one of Triple M’s most popular female presenters has provided a surprising update. Loren Barry announced on Instagram last week that she is now no longer part of The Marty Sheargold Show and has already said goodbye to the team. Elsewhere, it sounds like there are two NRL players who will be saying hello to new teams next season, with Josh Addo-Carr likely to be heading to the Eels, and rumours persist that Ryan Papenhuyzen will be leaving Melbourne with The Bulldogs firm favourites to sign him.
Green and Gold Revivals
The Wallabies have continued their good form over in Europe. A week after beating the Poms, this time the Aussies gave Wales its 11th defeat in a row by putting over 50 points on the board, making it two victories in a week. In the t20 series against Pakistan, the boys have taken a 2-0 lead as they look to get revenge following the recent 2-1 loss in the ODIs.
Origin Heads West
The 2025 State of Origin schedule for both the men’s and women’s comps are locked in, with the men kicking things off on Wednesday, May 28, at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, followed by Game 2 at Optus Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, June 18, and wrapping up at Accor Stadium in Sydney on Wednesday, July 9. Joe Fortune bringing you my ‘Winning Week in Review’ for 4th November – 10th November 2024. With the Wallabies, Kangaroos and Jillaroos all being victorious, along with Knight’s Choice causing a shock in the Melbourne Cup, it has been quite a start to the month. So, let’s get into the hot topics, Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Green, Gold and Glorious
How about that then… first up, the Wallabies land a huge shock by beating England at Twickenham with a last-minute try. Then, in the Pacific Championships the Jillaroos exact revenge over the Kiwis with a decisive 24-4 win in the final. And to complete a ripper Sunday, the Kangaroos held on against a valiant Tonga to win us even more silverware. In AFLW news, this year’s Grand Final is to be played under lights for the first time on November 30. Depending on viewing figures, it could see next year’s AFL Grand Final switch from 3pm to the evening…
The Voice Choice
In one of the biggest upsets ever in the Melbourne Cup, Knight’s Choice won the race, paying 80-1, with Irish jockey Robbie Dolan in the saddle. Dolan, who was more familiar to many Aussies for his performances in The Voice Australia, has now cemented his name in horse racing history in Australia. Well done to all those punters who backed the winner… the next round is on you! In other sports news, the Aussie Men’s cricket team suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against Pakistan in the ODI series. Plenty of questions need answering ahead of India’s tour, which starts in the next few weeks.
Raygun Breaks Free
Just a few days after challenging Australians to prove they could Breakdance better than she can, Raygun has pulled off one final move and decided to retire. Whatever you thought of her performances at the Olympics, good on her for having a go she showed true blue Aussie spirit. In Sydney, the harbour city’s marathon has been upgraded to become officially sanctioned as only the 7th global race of its kind. You can be sure that won’t persuade your mate Joe here to try running over 42ks!

Joe Fortune back again with my must-read ‘Week in Review’ for 28th October – 3rd November 2024. With The Office Australia proving to be the streaming hit of the spring, Lake Forest winning the Golden Eagle and Goldrush Guru taking the Victoria Derby, along with the missing Bluey Coins having been found, there’s been a lot happening! So, let’s get into the hot topics, Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Bluey Lands in Sydney
One of the great mysteries of 2024 has been solved… a few months ago, over $60k worth of Bluey Coins were stolen without much hope of them being found. But now, after some fair dinkum detective work, over $40k of them have been found in Sydney. In Melbourne this week, Coldplay gave a ripper tribute to one of our best sportsmen and larrikins by dedicating its song ‘Sparks’ to the mighty Shane Warne. The British band continues their tour of Australia by heading to Sydney this week.
Spring Sports Update
The Melbourne Cup Carnival got underway at Flemington on Saturday, where the South Australia colt Goldrush Guru claimed victory in the Victoria Derby with Jamie Kah in the saddle. Whilst in Sydney, the British-trained Lake Forest sprung a surprise in winning the $10 million Golden Eagle. In other sports news, two NRL players are looking for new clubs as the Dragons have torn up Ben Hunt’s contract and the Bulldogs have parted ways with Josh Addo-Carr. Also, our breakdancing Olympian, Raygun, has taken to social media to offer $5k to anyone who thinks they’re better than she is. All at a time where the number one Halloween costume this year in Australia was for people to dress like she did in the Paris Olympics!
Strewth it’s The Office
Having had versions made in the UK and the USA, Australia has now released its own version of The Office, and it certainly hasn’t disappointed fans. In just a couple of weeks, it has become a huge success and received plenty of great feedback and reviews, it can be viewed on Prime Video. In other TV news, the latest season of Love Island has returned on Channel 9, it won’t come as a surprise that your mate Joe hasn’t been asked to appear…

Which saw Via Sistina winning the Cox Plate, the Kangaroos beat the Kiwis and a visit from the King and Queen, it’s been another interesting week… So, let’s get into the hot topics, Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Sistina Rules at The Valley
For those who saw the race, it was one you won’t forget as the Chris Waller-trained import Via Sistina stormed to victory and broke the race record when winning the Cox Plate. It also gave Kiwi jockey James McDonald his 3rd consecutive win and brought up the 100th Group 1 win of his career. Other Kiwis who were victorious were the Silver Ferns, who took a 3-0 lead over our Australian Diamonds to win the Constellation Cup. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom for us Aussies, as the Kangaroos beat the Kiwis in the semi-finals 22-10 to reach the final of the Rugby League Pacific Championships.
Something for the Weeknd
The Weeknd’s Aussie concerts have been a huge success, and during the tour the Canadian singer’s hit ‘Blinding Lights’ has become the first song to surpass 4 billion streams on Spotify, making it the most played song ever on Spotify. Meanwhile, Travis Scott’s concert in Melbourne turned into chaos as fans attempted to enter the mosh pit, resulting in a bottle throwing contest and there were reports of 12-hour queues to get to his gig in Brisbane.
Elsewhere, King Charles and Queen Camilla made a quick visit to Sydney and Canberra as part of their first visit down under since he took to the throne.
GambleAware Week 2024

Maher-vellous Double
What a day for the Victorian based Ciaron Maher as his runner Bella Nipotina won a thrilling TAB Everest. This was then followed up with the trainer winning the Caulfield Cup with his runner Duke De Sessa. Meanwhile, at Phillip Island, despite the efforts of a local mosquito which got into Marc Marquez’s visor at the start of the race, it failed to stop the Spaniard from claiming his fourth MotoGP victory down under.
Nedd Rock-man
Nedd Brockmann, the 25-year-old former electrician, who rose to fame as the fastest person to ever run across Australia, has completed his latest challenge, running 1600 kms. Brockmann completed the run in 12 days and 13 hours and has so far raised nearly $3million for charity. Good on him, what a true Aussie Legend! Tony Popovic is also going well as the new head coach of the Socceroos continues to make an impact as his side earned a decent 1-1 draw away against Japan.
WAshes
For the first time in 43 years, the Ashes opening Test Match will not be at the Gabba in 2025. Instead, Cricket Australia has selected Perth in WA to host the first test of the series. Brisbane will stage the second game using a pink ball and under lights, Adelaide has the third, before the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne, and then the New Year’s Test is in Sydney. Talking cricket, our Aussie Women’s team has been defeated by South Africa in a shock in the t20 World Cup semi-final.
Aussies Want to Have Fun

So, let’s get into the hot topics, Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Lions Eat Bloods
The Lions went one better than last year and destroyed Sydney Swans by 120-60. After a tight opening quarter, it was all one-way traffic as Brisbane dominated at the MCG, leaving the Bloods’ fans in despair after its 4th Grand Final defeat in its last four appearances. Will Ashcroft won the Norm Smith Medal with 30 disposal and 1 goal. Earlier in the week, Carlton captain Patrick Cripps won the 2024 Brownlow Medal for a second time with an all-new record tally.
Spring Racing
What a weekend of horse racing, starting at the Valley on Friday night, where Pride of Jenni held off Mr Brightside in their latest tussle before Southport Tycoon, with jockey Mark Zahra on board, claimed the Manikato Stakes paying $20! At Rosehill Gardens, Broadsiding prevailed over stablemate Traffic Warden in a thrilling renewal of the Golden Rose.
Storming into the Final
Melbourne could not have been more impressive as it smashed the Sydney Roosters 48-18 to reach its first Grand Final since 2020. Up against the Storm is Penrith, who saw off Cronulla to get to its fifth consecutive final. Over in the Women’s Grand Final this Sunday are the Sydney Roosters, who will be up against the Cronulla Sharks.
Green and Gold Day
Australian music fans have plenty to look forward to the coming months, as Green Day has confirmed it is set to tour down under. Also locked in to visit us are a couple of other bands who were massive in the 1990s, Scotland’s Primal Scream and Britpop sensations Supergrass.
The Last Shoey
Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 career appears to be over, as the popular Aussie was sacked via social media by his Red Bull team. So, let’s get into the hot topics, Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Lions Eat Cats
This year’s AFL Grand Final will see minor premiers, the Sydney Swans, take on last year’s beaten finalists, the Brisbane Lions. In front of a passionate sellout crowd at the SCG, Sydney put on a ruthless display as it overcame Port Adelaide to reach its second final in 3 years. Meanwhile, the Lions did it again, just a week after coming from 44 points down to beat GWS, Brisbane overcame a 25-point deficit to claim a famous win over the Geelong Cats at the MCG.
What About Me
It’s been 20 years since What About Me was the best selling hit of the year, but get ready as I reckon it’s going to be in the charts again. Shannon ‘Nollsie’ Noll is leading the promo campaign for Channel 7’s latest sports advert. He has changed the words of the song to ‘What About Free’ to get behind the new free broadcasting channel for cricket and AFL on 7plus Sport. In other sports news, the pressure on EPL Spur’s coach, Big Ange, has lifted this week as his side defeated Brentford 3-1, despite conceding a first minute goal! Tottenham now sits 10th in the Premier League ladder.
Kiwi Kings
Followers of superstar Kiwi hoop James McDonald were toasting him late into Saturday night, as the NSW-based jockey took out the last 4 races on the card at Royal Randwick. His winning rides included the up-and-coming Autumn Glow, the impressive Fangirl and the gritty mare I Am Me. Safe to say the bookies took a battering, and I for one am not shedding any tears! Over in Stadium Australia, the All Blacks have yet again retained the Bledisloe Cup after surviving a late Wallabies’ fightback, the Kiwis held on to win 31-28.

Joe Fortune back with my ‘Quickfire Week in Review’ for 26th August – 1st September 2024. With our Aussie men going well in the US Open, the Wallabies winning against the Pumas and my mate J Webby taking on my latest eating challenge, it’s been another busy week. So, let’s look at the hot topics, Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Pop of The Tops
Just a couple of week’s ago, our rising tennis star Alexei Popyrin claimed his first Masters Title in Canada, and now, in the US Open, he has defeated Novak Djokovic and reached the round of 16. Also, in New York, there’s more excitement as up next is an all-Aussie battle for a place in the quarterfinals. Alex De Minaur and Jordan Thompson are set to face off, having both reached the last 16. Finally, the Wallabies have won a game… after 8 defeats in a row, the men came good with a last-minute score to defeat the Pumas in Argentina 20-19. Trailing at half-time by 13-7, the Aussies delivered in the second 40 minutes with substitute Ben Donaldson booting the penalty over with the last kick of the game!
Para-power in Paris
What a great start it has been for us Aussies at the Paralympics in Paris. After finishing 8th in Japan, the team has gone well in week 1 and currently sits 6th in the medal table. The inspiring rowing duo Jed Altschwager and Nikki Ayers led the way as they triumphed in the PR3 mixed double sculls. Meanwhile, elsewhere in Europe in the EPL, Big Ange’s team, Tottenham, is 10th on the ladder after 3 games as it suffered its first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 away to Newcastle.
Wonder-full
After nearly 15 years, Oasis has confirmed it is getting back together next year, with shows across the UK already sold out. The band, who had a huge hit in the 1990s with Wonderwall, may well add Australia to its tour, but no dates have been confirmed yet.
I sent my good mate J Webby over to Europe in order to create and then eat the biggest schnitty roll that Germany has ever seen… you’ve got to check out how he went taking on this beast of a roll, let’s just say the Aussie certainly filled himself up with this latest food challenge.

Joe Fortune here with my ‘Quickfire Week in Review’ for 19th August – 25th August 2024. With the Spring Racing Carnival fast approaching, the latest section of Sydney’s Metro service having opened and Aussie cyclist Matt Richardson becoming a Pom, there’s a bit to tuck into. So, let’s look at the hot topics, Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Matt Richards-Pom
It’s been barely a couple of weeks since Matt Richardson won his 3rd medal for us Aussies at the Olympic Games, and now our cycling star has decided to switch allegiances to the old enemy. Jeez, I know the Poms didn’t go quite as well as we did in the velodrome, but stealing one of our own to get more medals next time… That said, sorry to see the champ leave, just hope he knows what he is on for during the English summers!
Metro and Music
Whilst Melbourne continues to bore everyone with its debate on whether to build an Airport to CBD trainline, well done to Sydney for completing another section of its Metro in time for Spring. After a couple of last-minute hiccups, the driverless transport system thrilled train enthusiasts from around the world by starting to operate very early on Monday last week.
In other good news, music fans in Melbourne and Sydney can look forward to the return of The Weeknd who surprised everyone by announcing his long-awaited return to Australia in October. This includes two back-to-back shows at Marvel Stadium followed by two gigs at Accor Stadium.
Tigers on the Prowl
After defeating South Sydney last week, the Tigers have only gone and managed another win! Trailing Manly by 16 points, last-placed Wests Tigers produced the shock of the season as it came back to claim a 34-26 victory at Leichhardt Oval. Also, in NRL news, Melbourne Storm has won the minor premiership, whilst over in the AFL, Sydney Swans confirmed itself as the minor premiers with a convincing win over Adelaide.
The Spring Racing Carnival is around the corner, so our racing stars are returning to the track. At Randwick in the Winx Stakes, Chris Waller’s Via Sistina won the group 1 race and now looks a strong hope for this year’s Cox Plate. Over the jumps, in the Grand National Steeplechase at Ballarat, Rachael Cunningham’s 10-year-old, The Good Fight, sprung a surprise in winning by 25 lengths.

Joe Fortune back with my ‘Quickfire Week in Review’ for 12th August – 18th August 2024. With updates from this year’s Logies, fallout from Raygun’s breakdancing at the Olympics and victory for one of our Aussies in the Canadian Open, there’s been plenty going on. So, here’s my look at the hot topics, Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Boy Swallows Awards
This year’s ceremony was held at the Star Casino in Sydney and was hosted by Sam Pang who once again nailed it! Veteran presenter Larry Emdur took out the top award of the evening in winning the Gold Logie, but it was 15-year-old Felix Cameron who won two Logies and captured the hearts of Australia with his speeches. His show, Boy Swallows Universe, also cleaned up with five awards. In attendance was our Olympic breakdancing and now viral sensation, Raygun. She continues to be all over the news as divided opinion continues to grow on her performance over in Paris.
Black and Blue
Australian wonder-mare Black Caviar has passed away one day short of turning 18. Winner of all 25 of her races, including a thriller at Royal Ascot, she remains one of the true global thoroughbred racing icons.
Having been an on-going event since 1990, apart from being cancelled in 2020 and 2021, I have more disappointing news for music fans. Organisers have confirmed that next year’s Byron Bay Blues Fest 2025 will be the last one.
Aussie Masters Canada
Rising tennis star Alexei Popyrin took out the Canadian Open 2024 with solid straight sets win over the world number 8, Andrey Rublev, in the Montreal final. By claiming the title, Popyrin has become the first Aussie to snag an ATP Masters 1000 title since 2003 when Lleyton Hewitt won the Indian Wells Masters.

It’s Joe Fortune here with the greatest Fortune Feed ever, to sum up, this is my ‘Golden Week in Review Part 3’ for 5th August – 11th August 2024. What a ripper it’s been as our Aussies had their greatest Olympics ever, finishing fourth with 18 Golds and 53 Medals in total, AFL Legend Dusty Martin called it time, and I pay respect to Mr ‘Democracy Manifest’, who sadly passed away. So, let’s get into these hot topics, Golden Aussie sports news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Bloody Awesome Aussies
What Olympic Games we’ve had, so much to celebrate, but I’ve decided to call out Day 12… It started with Matt Wearn winning gold in the men’s dinghy. Then, Keegan Palmer followed on as he won the men’s park skateboarding final. The excitement continued as Oliver Bleddyn, Sam Welsford, Conor Leahy, and Kelland O’Brien conquered the Poms in the men’s team cycling pursuit, but it was Nina Kennedy who capped things off in winning gold in the women’s pole vault. She made history twice as she became Australia’s first women’s field gold medallist, and at the same time, she took us to 18 Golds, surpassing our previous record of 17.
Succulent Chinese Meal
Jack Karlson, the Aussie bloke who immortalised the phrase “this is democracy manifest,” passed away last week, aged 82. Karlson, who was something of a serial prison escaper, small-time crook, and part-time artist, became a cultural icon after a 2010 video went viral online showing his 1991 arrest at a Chinese restaurant in Brisbane. In the clip, his dramatic questions, “What is the charge… Eating a meal… A succulent Chinese meal!?” captured the attention of millions, making him a True-Blue Australian meme icon.
Dusty Pulls the Pin
After a stunning AFL career, Dusty Martin has retired with immediate effect, having confirmed he has played his final match for Richmond against North Melbourne. Since his debut in 2010, the 33-year-old has made 302 appearances and scored 338 goals, making him one of the greatest in the game’s history. The 2017 Brownlow medallist was also a three-time Norm Smith medallist, and Martin was key to Richmond’s incredible dynasty, as it claimed premiership victories in 2017, 2019, and 2020. What a legend of the sport!

G’day, Joe Fortune again with more great Olympics updates and here’s my ‘Golden Week Part 2 in Review’ for 29th July – 4th August 2024. With loads more medals for our Aussies, the thoroughbred season 2023/24 finishing, and a couple of shocks in both footy codes, it’s been a ripper of a few days. So, let’s get into my hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.

Aussie Gold Rush
Where to begin… what about with Kaylee McKeown, who has become the first Aussie to win four individual Olympic gold medals. With many other successes in the pool, including Cam McEvoy winning the 50m freestyle gold, it has been a sensational effort from the Dolphins in Paris. Elsewhere, we’ve had plenty more success with Saya Sakakibara claiming a piece of history in winning our first-ever Olympic gold medal in BMX Racing. Currently sitting 4th in the table, there’s a feel-good factor on how well the team is doing heading into week 3.
Racing Around
Have you heard of Tara… This small Queensland town came alive again at the start of August for its annual camel races event. Hundreds of fans brought their swags, caravans and tents to enjoy the atmosphere and excitement in celebrating the diverse culture of the local region. In thoroughbred racing news, WA based jockey William Pike was the overall winner of Australia’s Champion Jockey title for the season, finishing ahead of Queensland’s James Orman. NSW-based James McDonald took out the Australian Metropolitan Championship with 115 winners and an eye bulging $36 million in prize money! The Champion Australian Trainer title was claimed by Victorian-based Ciaron Maher, who again narrowly defeated Chris Waller.
Footy Shocks
Rumours persist about WA having its first ever NRL side soon, and if ever it wanted to attract the locals, the game in Perth was a perfect showcase as Sydney Roosters beat the Redcliffe Dolphins 40-34 in a thriller. Elsewhere in NRL, the Dragons broke a 25-year hoodoo in producing the shock of the round as it defeated the Storm in Melbourne 18-16, leaving the minor premiership race wide open. Over in the AFL, the Swans appear to be flapping aimlessly as it suffered a fifth defeat in six games. In what was a complete annihilation in South Australia, Sydney lost by 112 points to Port Adelaide and now sits only 2 points clear at the top of the ladder.

Your mate Joe Fortune is back and dead set thrilled to be watching the Olympics, so here’s my ‘Golden Week in Review’ for 22nd July – 28th July 2024. With some early gold medals for our Aussies, plenty of drama for the Matildas, and news that Kylie will be touring down under, there’s plenty to report. So, let’s get into my hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Green and Loads of Gold
What a great start for our team in Paris as Ariarne Titmus has defended her 400m freestyle title, adding another gold to her growing collection! Also in the pool, Mollie O’Callaghan, Shayna Jack, Emma McKeon, and Meg Harris smashed the Olympic record whilst winning the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay. In the cycling, Grace Brown took out the women’s individual time trial, which secured our first medal of the Games. Also, it was great to see Jessica Fox fulfilling her dreams by winning gold in the kayaking.
Waltzing Matildas
It’s been another roller coaster for our Matildas. Having started out with big hopes of winning a medal, the team was smashed 3-0 by Germany in its opening game. In match two against Zambia, our women were 5-2 down at the hour mark and looked set to crash out of the games, only for a stunning comeback which was completed when Michelle Heyman scored in the last few seconds for an incredible 6-5 victory. Elsewhere, the Australian men’s rugby sevens team has fallen short of winning a maiden Olympic medal, it suffered a 26-19 loss to South Africa in the bronze medal match.
Spinning Around
In entertainment news, I start with more frustrating news for music festival fans, as Spilt Milk 2024 has been added to the growing list of music events being cancelled in Australia. But don’t worry, all is not lost, as Kylie is set to tour around all of Australia for the first time in five years… dates and venues still being finalised. Fans of Hugh Jackman can enjoy seeing him at the cinema, as Deadpool & Wolverine was released around the country this week. Finally, in this week’s Dancing with the Stars, celebrity chef Hayden Quinn’s rumba effort wasn’t good enough, and he has become the latest competitor to have been eliminated.

Whilst Joe Biden might be stepping down, don’t worry, this Joe, your mate Joe Fortune, is here to stay and I am back with my ‘Week in Review’ for 15th July – 21st July 2024. With this year’s Master Chef winner confirmed, an Aussie claiming the Hungarian Grand Prix and the Blues stunning the Maroons, it’s been a ripper of a week. So, let’s get into my hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and the latest entertainment updates.
Stars On TV
Been an entertaining week on TV, starting with a shout out and congrats to Nat Thaipun, who defeated Josh Perry to win Master Chef 2024 and claim the $250k prize. Also, Dancing with the Stars has returned for another season, Nadia Bartel and her partner Lyu Masuda were the first to be eliminated from this year’s comp. In entertainment news, fans hoping to see the remainder of Tenacious D’s tour were left disappointed as Jack Black pulled the plug and has hinted that the group might split following inappropriate jokes made by his band…
NSW Blue Away QLD
In what was a battle of the ages, NSW pulled off a stunning victory at Lang Park, coming from 1-0 down in the series to claim the decider in this year’s Origin. The match was the most bloody and intense game witnessed in years as the new Blues coach, Michael Maguire, masterminded a 14-4 victory. His team successfully locked out the Maroons from scoring a try in it’s our fortress at Brisbane in a game that will be talked about for years. Another gruelling sport’s event finished over the weekend as Tadej Pogacar sealed a sensational Tour de France-Giro d’Italia double. Our top-placed Aussie in the Tour de France was Jai Hindley, who finished in 18th position.
It All Got a Bit Messi…
The week started with the delayed kick off to Copa America 2024. Once underway, Lionel Messi was unable to see out the game and was substituted due to an injury. However, it didn’t prevent Argentina from winning the tournament for a record 16th time by defeating Colombia. Over in Hungary, our rising star in Formula 1, Oscar Piastri, won his maiden Grand Prix leading a McLaren 1-2. Finally, in the Open Golf Championship, Adam Scott and Jason Day battled tough conditions to finish 10th and 13th but it was US player Xander Schauffele who won, and in doing so, claimed his second major of the season.

How are you going? Joe Fortune back again with my ‘Week in Review’ for 1st July – 7th July 2024. With Rugby Union great Michael Hooper announcing his retirement, Neighbour’s star Ryan Moloney quitting Neighbours, along with rumours that Margot Robbie is expecting her first child, it’s been quite a week. Here’s my pick of the latest hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and ripper entertainment updates.
Toadfish to Finish
Long-standing Neighbour’s actor Ryan Moloney, who has played Toadfish for more years than I can count, has confirmed he is quitting the show. The actor has hinted he will still be involved, but behind the camera. Another former Neighbours star also creating headlines is Margot Robbie, who is rumoured to be expecting her first child with husband Tom Ackerley… the Barbie star has yet to confirm this though. In other entertainment news, British Pop Sensation Busted has said that it will be touring Australia for the first time ever in the Spring with gigs in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Try and Dry in July
For those of you looking to complete Dry July, your mate Joe wishes you all the best. I know that sales of Mocktails, Zero Percent Beers and Lemon Squash have been selling in my local this last week. Now onto scoring a try or two in July… It was great to see the Wallaroos had a try feast as it smashed Fijiana 64-5 before the Wallabies also put a win on the board against Wales. Also, in rugby news, former captain Michael Hooper has retired from international rugby after failing to get picked for the Olympics Seven’s Squad. What a superb career and decent bloke he’s been, representing us with 125 caps.
Into Week Two
Viewers of the Tour de France will know what a brutal first week it was, however, I am pleased to report that we’ve got a couple of Aussie going alright. Jai Hindley is currently in 18th place and Jack Haig not far behind him in 22nd spot. Also, into week 2, we still have hope in the tennis with one remaining player in the single’s draw at Wimbledon where Alex de Minaur is in the round of 16. Finally, over in the UK, it’s been great to see Oscar Piastri go alright in the British Grand Prix, where he finished in fourth place.

How’s it going… your mate Joe Fortune is back with my ‘Week in Review’ for 24th June – 30th June 2024. Featuring updates from both the men’s and women’s Origin games, MrBeast gifting a million bucks worth of cars away for free and Julian Assange returning home as a free man, there is plenty to get through. Let’s get into my highlights of all the latest hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and ripper entertainment updates.
It’s All Over Now Baby Blue
First news to report is not so good as the Caloundra Music Festival, held on the Sunny Coast, has become the latest event to be cancelled this year due to rising costs. Other endings this week includes Cate Campbell announcing her retirement from swimming, having failed to qualify for Paris 2024. She’s been an absolute star for Aussie sport, and we’re lucky to have been able to enjoy all her successes. Also, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has ended his sentence, having spent over 5 years in a London prison. The controversial figure has now landed back in Australia as a free man, having reached an agreement on time served.
State of Origin
At the MCG, over 90,000 fans watched the NSW Blues put on a stunning display to defeat QLD and set up a decider in Brisbane later in July. Whilst in Townsville, in the women’s Origin decider, it was the Maroons who claimed victory to win the first ever 3-match series 2-1. Over in the West Indies, Australia was defeated by India and, in doing so, was knocked out of the t20 World Cup. The loss has brought an end to the international career of opening batter David Warner.
Sporting Chance
YouTube sensation MrBeast caused mayhem in Sydney last week as thousands of fans packed in front of the Opera House in the hope of winning 1 of 10 cars that were being given away for free. Jeez, how’s your luck… one person took home a Lamborghini worth nearly $500,000! I’d prefer to be driving that then cycling in the Tour de France, which got underway this week. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to keep you updated on how our Aussies get on over the next 3 weeks.

G’day, Joe Fortune is here giving you all my ‘Week in Review’ for 17th June – 23rd June 2024. With Asfoora winning at Royal Ascot, Ash Barty accepting an invitation to play at Wimbledon, and Paul Barry stepping down as host of Media Watch, there’s plenty going on! So, let’s get on with my highlights of all the latest hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and ripper entertainment updates.
Victory at Royal Ascot
As highlighted in my Royal Ascot write up, we had just the one runner at the meeting this year and Asfoora didn’t disappoint. The 5-year-old mare trained at Ballarat by Henry Dwyer brought home the choccies in the King Charles lll Stakes, showing the world that our sprinters are the best on the planet! Back in Australia, South Sydney winger Alex Jonston has moved into 2nd place in the most tries scored in the history of the NRL as he touched down for the 191st in first grade footy. Still only 29, he has every chance of overtaking Ken Irvine’s 212, a record that has stood for 50 years!
End of an Era
Whilst it looked like we had seen the last of Ash Barty on the tennis court, it sounds like we may be seeing her again at Wimbledon this year. The Barty Party could start again as she has accepted an invite to play doubles at the grass court championships starting next week. In TV news, we are at the end of an era, as veteran presenter Paul Barry has announced after 11 years he will be stepping down as host of Media Watch this December. There is, however, a new era starting at betting giants Tabcorp, as former AFL Boss Gill McLachlan has been announced as the new CEO.
Looking Forward
Australia remains in the hunt to win the t20 World Cup despite a shock defeat to Afghanistan in the Super 8 Group. Coming up this week, we take on India in a critical match to qualify for the semi-finals. In other sport’s news, Copa America kicked off with Lional Messi’s Argentina winning its opening game as it looks to defend its title. Finally, looking forward to the Olympic Games, Team Australia has confirmed that not only is it bringing its own barista again, but it has ensured the team will have plenty of Weet Bix and Milo to fuel our athletes for glory!

Aussie Records
Last week the swimming trials saw the 41-strong team confirmed to representant us in the 2024 Paris Olympics next month. The highlight of the week being Ariarne Titmus’ performance, where she broke the 200m freestyle world record! In the AFL, Dusty Martin played his 300th game, and despite scoring the first goal in front of over 93,000 at the MCG, it wasn’t enough for the Tigers as Hawthorn defeated Richmond. In South Australia, Joel Amartey kicked a stunning nine goals from ten touches to help Sydney to a comfortable victory over Adelaide.
Overseas Action
Over in the US, Adam Scott played in his 92nd successive major tournament, what an effort that is! He made the cut in the US Open but could only manage a 32nd place finish as this year’s event was won by US player Bryson DeChambeau. In the UK former Neighbours star turned pop-star Holly Valance has headed in a new direction, last week she fronted up a fund-raising event in London to help get donations to support Donald Trump’s presidential election campaign… Meanwhile, in the West Indies, the Aussie men’s team completed its group matches with 4 wins from 4 in the t20 World Cup and head to the Super 8 stages in good form as we aim for a 2nd title. Over in Germany, the European Championships Football got underway with the home nation smashing Scotland 5-1.
Full in Sydney
My mate J Webby Can Eat has been busy again, taking on more food challenges in Sydney, this time he was defeated in his efforts to eat Australia’s largest burger… he still got through 6.5 kilos of burgers before feeling full! Talking of being full, this year’s Vivid festival continued to draw huge crowds but for the 10,000’s who made their way to the harbour to watch the closing drone ceremony there was disappointment as 20 mins before the event was due to start it was called off due to bad weather.

The Fortune Feed – June 3 – June 9
G’day Joe Fortune here with my ‘Week in Review’ for 3rd June – 9th June 2024. In a week where Alex de Minaur’s run in the French Open came to an end, the men’s t20 cricket world cup got underway, and the Archibald Prize winner was announced there’s plenty to get into. So, here’s my review on all the latest hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and ripper entertainment updates.
Blue It
In this year’s State of Origin opener, the Blues had a shocker in game 1 at the Accor Stadium as Joseph-Aukuso Sua’ali’i was sent off for a dangerous tackle after only 7 minutes. Valiantly as NSW tried, it was QLD who came out on top 38-10 and is now firm favourites to win for a third year in a row. Meanwhile in the women’s competition the Sky Blues suffered defeat as well, as QLD claimed a narrow 11-10 win in Newcastle, leaving the first ever best of 3 women’s Origin Series tied at 1-1 heading into the decider. One person who hasn’t had a blue is this year’s Archibald winner Laura Jones with her portrait of Tim Winton.
Going for Gold
With the Olympics getting underway next month the Matildas played out its final game at home in front of over 76,000 fans. After a convincing 2-0 win over China hopes are high that the team can win a medal in Paris. Talking of which, our number 1 tennis player Alex de Minaur’s run in the French Open came to an end in the quarterfinals, a truly great effort as he becomes the first bloke to get that far since Lleyton Hewitt did 20 years ago. Our Aussie Women’s rugby 7s team head to the Paris Olympics in great form having become the first winners of the SVNS series champions, after overcoming France in the final of the Madrid Sevens.
Speeding Up
Qantas has announced that it is going to change its boarding processes for domestic flights by calling passengers in groups. The company says it will mean flights will be more likely to leave on time… Talking of fast, the men’s World t20 has got underway and thanks to a great all-round performance from Marcus Stoinis the Aussies got off to a winning start beating Oman by 39 runs. Then in the team’s second match against the old enemy England, we secured a satisfying 36 run victory and in turn dented the Poms hopes of progression.

The Fortune Feed – May 27-June 2
How are you going… it’s your mate Joe Fortune back with my ‘Week in Review’ for 27th May – 2nd June 2024. Quite a mix this week, with Rupert Murdoch getting married for a 5th time, Alex de Minaur is into week 2 of the French Open and the Gold Coast Suns shock the second-placed Bombers in the AFL. So, here’s my review on all the latest hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and ripper entertainment updates.
Romantic Results
Last year’s Cox Plate winner, Romantic Warrior, headed over to Japan and claimed the Group 1 Yasuda Kinen. Champion hoop James McDonald showed why he is considered the best in the world as he took out the Tokyo race with a stunning ride. At Eagle Farm, the Brisbane Racing Carnival continued, where I Wish I Win claimed the Kingsford Smith Cup, and Warmonger romped home to take out the Queensland Derby. Over in France, our top ranked Men’s player, Alex de Minaur, has made it into week 2 of the French Open and, in doing so, becomes the first bloke to do this since Lleyton Hewitt.
Sunny on the Gold Coast
Just last week I mentioned how well the Bombers were going, only for the second-placed team on the ladder to get downed by the Gold Coast Suns. The Queensland side is now into 8th place as it looks to reach finals footy for the first time in its history. Elsewhere, in our capital, there is a battle underway as free to air sports coverage on TV is being discussed. It could mean that only those with old school tv aerials will be guaranteed to watch all our best sporting contests at no charge. As you can imagine, your mate Joe is paying very close attention to how this plays out. Updates to follow!
5th Time Lucky…
He might be in his 90s, but that hasn’t stopped Rupert Murdoch from getting married for a 5th time! The media mogul got hitched last week at a California winery to 67-year-old Elena Zhukova. Back in Aus, former Sunrise talent David Koch has been named chair of the South Australian Tourism Commission. Keep your eyes open for some events that Kochie will be setting up to attract visitors to SA. One that is pulling in the crowds again this year in NSW is the annual light show, Vivid, in Sydney. Despite the fresh winter weather, the numbers are still flocking to the harbour city to see the dazzling displays.

The Fortune Feed – May 13-May 19
Let’s get into it battlers, here’s Joe Fortune again with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 13th – 19th May 2024, bringing you all the latest hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and ripper entertainment updates. It’s been quite a week as the NRL headed to Brisvegas for Magic Round, Disneyland looks set to come to Victoria and the Blues win game 1 in the women’s State of Origin.

NRL is Magic
Further to last week’s news that the AFL might be expanding again, now it’s the NRL which has plans to add potentially 2 new teams to its comp. First up, there’s talk of a Papua New Guinea franchise and now the hype is increasing about a return of the North Sydney Bears who might be based in Perth… This year’s Magic Round was played out at Suncorp Stadium, but it hasn’t helped South Sydney who lost again and remain at the bottom of the ladder. There might be some good news for the Bunnies as media reports suggest Wayne Bennett is heading back to coach the club again next season.
Reaching The Summit
On Channel 9, The Summit has returned for another season. Here, contestants look to conquer a very high peak in New Zealand to win $1million… just quietly, I’m bloody knackered watching the show! Talking of summits and getting exhausted, the Giro D’Italia, the cycling race around Italy, has seen many of our men going well. With one week to go Aussie Ben O’Connor is currently in 4th place. Back in Australia, the Blues has left the Maroons with a mountain to climb as it’s taken a 1-0 lead in the first ever 3-match Women’s State of Origin. NSW comfortably defeated QLD 22-12, game 2 will be in NSW on 6th June.
Disneyland Down Under…
Werribee might be best known for its horse racing, but things could be set to change dramatically for this Melbourne suburb. Word is coming through that the Walt Disney Company is planning to spend big and expand with the aim of winning over more customers on the international scene. The small Victorian town has been identified as a potential destination for Disneyland Australia! One Aussie who has won oversees this week was Jai Opetaia. The Sydney-born boxer reclaimed his cruiserweight title over Mairis Briedis in what was a full-on brutal bloodbath victory in Saudi Arabia.

The Fortune Feed – May 6-May 12
Welcome to my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 6th – 12th May 2024, Joe Fortune is back with you catching up on the latest hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sport’s news, and ripper entertainment updates. In a week where one of the judges on The Block retired, Pride of Jenni saw her ratings fly high and there’s speculation of another Aussie Rules team we’ve plenty to get into.
20 Aussie Rules
After confirmation last year that Tasmania will have its own AFL team, there is now talk that the NT will have a side based in Darwin, which may become the 20th to join the league. Reckon there’s plenty more to come on this yarn so watch this space! In this year’s comp, the Swans continue to set the early pace and remain top of the ladder as they recorded an easy 87-39 win over the Dockers. Over in the NRL, it was the Sharks who prevailed over the Storm in Melbourne and continued their incredible early season form remaining the only side with a 100% record.

Block Shock
Australia was invited to be part of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest again, but our band Electric Fields sadly didn’t make it to finals’ night. This year’s contest was won by the Swiss singer Nemo, giving the country its first win since Celine Dion back in 1988… In other pop music news, two of the biggest female acts on the planet have announced tours down under. First up, Billie Eilish and then late last week Olivia Rodrigo confirmed dates to visit Australia.
In TV news, fans of the Block will have been shocked to learn that veteran judge Neale Whitaker has announced he’s quitting the upcoming renovation series. After 13 years, his departure is certainly going to leave a gap in the show and big boots to fill.
Coasting To The Top
The Central Coast Mariners has won the AFC Cup in Oman. The NSW side claimed the trophy with a 1-0 victory over Lebanon’s Al Ahed. Elsewhere, the star of the Autumn Racing Carnival, Pride of Jenni, has become the top-rated filly/mare in the latest Longines World Rankings.
Over in the IPL, Jake Fraser-McGurk’s is breaking records at will. His latest fast-fired 50 has meant he now hit the most fifties in under 20 balls in the tournament’s history. His three rapid fifties are even more incredible given it was just his seventh game in the event! These heroics still haven’t been enough to get a call-up to the Aussie Squad for the year’s Men’s Cricket t20 World Cup.

The Fortune Feed – April 29-May 5
Here we are again battlers, your mate Joe Fortune is back with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 29th April – 5th May 2024. Plenty to catch up on as Souths ditched their coach, Nicole Kidman wins an Award and seedless mangoes might be on the way…Read on as I outline the latest hot topics, fair dinkum Aussie sports news, and ripper entertainment updates.
We’re not Kid-ding.
The week started with the announcement that Nicole Kidman has become the first Aussie to receive the American Film institute Lifetime Achievement award. Those in the movie industry consider this one of the highest honours, Kidman joins an elite list including Al Pacino, Morgan Freeman, and Meryl Streep.
Another Aussie, author Kate Grenville, is also being recognised on the international scene as her novel Restless Dolly Maunder has been shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. Meanwhile back here in Australia, Troye Sivan’s Rush has won Song of the Year at the APRA Music Awards. This is voted for by fellow musicians so I guess it must be pretty good…
Missing.
Boffins from a Uni in Queensland have announced that mangoes and avos could well be produced without seeds or stones soon. There’s still work to be done to keep the fruits as tasty as we’re used to, but I reckon a watermelon with its seeds missing sounds like a bloody good idea!
Talking of missing, you won’t be seeing Paul Kent on your screens for a while, the veteran NRL journo got into a street brawl outside a venue in Rozelle. He didn’t seem to come off too well and has now been charged with affray and is due in court later in the month.
One that I hope you didn’t miss out on was this year’s renewal of the Grand Annual Steeplechase at the ‘Bool where 33-1 shot Count Zero narrowly defeated Bell Ex One in an epic over the 5500 metre race.
A Tale of Two Cities.
Last week the inevitable happened as South Sydney dispensed of its coach Jason Demetrious. With the Bunnies bottom of the ladder and looking all at sea there is talk of Wayne Bennett returning next season to revive the clubs’ fortunes.
Over in AFL it was the Sydney Swans that claimed bragging rights in the first Harbour City derby of the season as it overcame GWS Giants and went to the top of the ladder. Also going well in the NSW capital, Sydney FC won the A-League Women’s Grand Final defeating Melbourne City to retain the title.

The Fortune Feed – April 22-29
G’day how are you going… Joe Fortune here with my ripper of a ‘Week in Review’ for 22nd – 28th April 2024. Another lively week around Australia as we paid tribute to our servicemen and women on Anzac Day, we’ve got our first fully trained astronaut and LIV golf returned to Adelaide. So, let’s get into my fast review on the latest hot topics, essential Aussie sports news, and must-read entertainment updates.

Plenty of Space for Aussies
We may have had a couple of Aussies in space before, but they went up under the US flag. Now our very own Katherine Bennell-Pegg has graduated from the European Space Agency astronaut program meaning she is set to become the first astronaut to venture into space as an Aussie!
Back on planet earth, Bridgerton has come to NSW… The romantic Netflix drama transformed the beautiful country town of Bowral ahead of the arrival of Season 3. Shopfronts were transformed with fashionable bunting and plenty of native flowers. The small town saw thousands of fans visit from across Australia most of whom were adorned in their finest regency attire to enjoy a truly unique event.
The Phoenix Rises
LIV Golf returned to Adelaide where American Brendan Steele claimed the title at 18 under, one shot ahead of South African Louis Oosthuizen. Our best placed finisher was Matt Jones who finished tied 9th at 14 under. Cam Smith couldn’t quite catch the leaders in the final round carding a 70 and ended one shot back in tied 14th.
With one match left in the A-League regular season Wellington Phoenix sit top of the ladder. The Central Coast Mariners could yet topple them with its final game against Adelaide United this Wednesday should it manage at least a draw.
Two-Up
Around the country dawn services, marches and tributes flowed to our servicemen and women who have served and protected our country so bravely. As the day went on pubs and clubs around paid their own time-honoured tributes to our forces by offering games of Two-Up, I hope you went alright… Over at the MCG, Essendon and Collingwood battled out an 85-85 draw in an Anzac Day thriller watched by 93,000 fans. It wasn’t quite the same in the traditional NRL feature match at the Allianz Stadium where the Roosters slayed the Dragons 60-18.

The Fortune Feed – April 15-21
G’day battlers, how are you going… Joe Fortune here with my unmissable ‘Week in Review’ for 15th – 21st April 2024. It’s been a bloody busy week for us Aussies as Travis Head wins Cricketer of the Year, the world’s oldest wombat turns 35, my mate J Webby goes very large, and three Aussie stars get drafted in the WNBA. So, let’s tuck into my quick review on the hot topics, latest Aussie sport’s news and entertainment updates.
Big Aussie News
What an effort from my mate J Webby, who created and then devoured the biggest and most ocker Aussie sanga I’ve ever seen. Jeez he sure can put it away… be sure to check it out! Speaking of big news, Tassie-born wombat Mr Wine, who now is in Japan, is officially the oldest one alive as he turned 35 last week. Hang about, there’s more big news as in women’s sport it has been confirmed that State of Origin will increase to become a three-game series to match the men’s version. And, speaking of three… over in the US our rising basketball stars Jaz Shelley, Nyadiew Puoch, and Isobel Borlase were all drafted in this year’s 2024 WNBA.
Demon defeats the King
Alex De Minaur has become the first Aussie to defeat Rafa Nadal on clay… Whilst the King of Clay is returning from injury it was a bloody good effort from the Demon to make history at the Barcelona Open. It wasn’t such good news for a couple of our other sports stars, as Neil Robertson failed to qualify for this year’s World Snooker Championships, and Daniel Ricardo’s season goes from bad to worse as he gets taken out and fails to finish in the China Grand Prix. Sadly, the men’s under 23s team, the Olyroos, has failed to qualify, but don’t worry as we can look forward to cheering the mighty Matildas in this year’s Paris Olympic Games.
Travis is the Head Boy
What a ripper of a 12 months it’s been for Travis Head. Just last week he was announced as Wisden’s Test Cricketer of the Year on the back of his centuries helping the Baggy Greens lift the World Test Championship for the first time as well as retaining the Ashes away from home. To celebrate his success, Head, currently playing in the IPL, smashed a 39-ball unbeaten 100 as his Sunrisers Hyderabad team under captain Pat Cummins, continue to break all sorts of run records.

The Fortune Feed – April 8-14
Joe Fortune with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 8th-14th April 2024. In what has been a sobering weekend in Australia, and I’ll start by sharing my thoughts with all those impacted by the horrendous attacks in Bondi. The stories emerging of bravery shown by everyday Aussies has offered a small crumb of comfort and something we can take pride in. Elsewhere, there’s been plenty to follow, so here’s my brief review at the hot topics along with the latest Aussie sport and entertainment news.
Joe Fortune back with you again with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 8th-14th April 2024. Autumn continues to provide plenty of stories from around the country as Pride of Jenni romps to victory at Randwick, Bluey comes to an end, the first Winx foal sells for $10m, and the Rabbitohs’ woeful season continues. Here’s my brief review on the hot topics along with the latest Aussie sport and entertainment news.
Master-ful Scenes
The year’s Masters saw world number one, Scottie Scheffler, claim the title for a second time, while the best performing Aussie, Cam Smith, finished 6th as he continues his quest for his first green jacket.
At the Inglis Sales, there was plenty of interest as Winx’s first foal went under the hammer for a cool $10 million… Jeez, she’ll have to win a few to cover the cost!
Over at Royal Randwick in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Pride of Jenni was sent 40 lengths clear of the field under jockey Declan Bates. In one of the most audacious and thrilling rides ever seen in a group 1 race, the mare won easily by over 6 lengths.
Not Such a Blue Day
In addition to stories about Sacha Baron Cohen in Rebel Wilson’s book, news has also emerged that his wife, Aussie actress Isla Fisher, is looking to divorce the Borat star. Does that mean she’ll be returning to Home and Away…
On TV, the latest season of MAFS came to an end on Monday with some of the relationships sounding like they might work out! At least two couples, Sara and Tim, and then Eden and Jayden, seem committed to each other…
The big news from Brisbane was the airing of the ‘last’ episode of Bluey, as the family were selling their home. But, with a few twists during the finale, it looks like we’ve not seen the last of this Blue Heeler puppy and her family…
Footy
Starting at the top of the ladder, we find the only two teams with an unblemished record as the Giants and Cats each having won 5 from 5 this season. The biggest shock of the round came as the West Coast Eagles claimed their first win of the campaign, downing Richmond 109-70.
In the NRL, speculation on the future of Bunnies’ coach, Jason Demetriou, continues as Souths slip to a fifth defeat and find themselves at the foot of the table. At the other end the early pace is being set by the Sharks and Storm both unbeaten with a perfect 5 wins out of 5.

The Fortune Feed – March 18-24
G’day, how’s Autumn treating you? Joe Fortune here again with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 18th – 24th March 2024. A week of shocks as Lady of Camelot claims victory in the Golden Slipper, Ferrari dominate in the Aussie GP and some unexpected celebs land in the jungle. Here’s my brief look back at the hot topics, latest Aussie sport, and entertainment news.
Devil’s Delight
And now we know that the newest AFL team will be called the Tasmanian Devils. The 19th team will be joining the competition in 2028 and has already attracted over 150,000 members within a week of the name being confirmed! In other Aussie Rules news reigning champions Collingwood has had a shocking start to the season by losing its first 3 games. Over in the NRL another pre-season favourite is also struggling as South Sydney finds itself also with a 0/3 record whilst the Cowboys stand at the top of the ladder with the only 100% record after 3 rounds.
It Pays to Drive and Survive
In another shock, the all-conquering Red Bull Team failed to get on the podium in the Aussie Grand Prix at Albert Park as Max Verstappen’s car caught fire. This allowed Calos Sainz to lead home Charles Leclerc, to land a stunning Ferrari 1-2. For us Aussies, Maclaren driver Oscar Piastri, put in a strong show to finish in 4th place. Other Aussie drivers who are celebrating are our cabbies as Uber Australia has agreed to settle a payout worth about $180m AUD.
Slipping an Eighth Win
In what proved to be a Thriller in Sydney’s West, the much-hyped fav Storm Boy was blown away in this year’s Golden Slipper finishing 3rd behind the winner Lady of Camelot and the second-placed roughie Coleman. The win was veteran trainer Gai Watehouse’s 8th in the race and cemented her as the Queen of Rosehill Gardens. Meanwhile, a few k’s away over in Africa the latest series of I’m A Celebrity started on Channel 10 as a lineup featuring Candice Warner, Brittany Hockley, Skye Wheatley, and Michelle Bridges aim to become Queen of the Jungle.

The Fortune Feed – March 11-17
How are you going battlers… Joe Fortune here again with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 11th – 17th March 2024. What a week it’s been with a surprising look to the AFL ladder, Aussies lifting the WPL crown, and who isn’t recovering after St Patrick’s Day? So, here’s my brief take on the hot topics, latest Aussie sport, and entertainment news.
Aussies Overseas
T20 Cricket continues to bloom in India, and this year’s Women’s Premier League saw three of our Aussie stars lift the crown for the first time. Sophie Molineux grabbed 3 wickets in an over to win Player of the Match whilst Ellyse Perry’s 35 not out took RCB to an 8-wicket victory. Also in the side was fellow countrywoman Georgia Wareham. Good on you girls! Over in the EPL, Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs battle to claim a top 4 spot and qualification for the UCL took a hit as his side were downed 3-0 away to Fulham.
Poms and Paddys
When English musician/ DJ Fred Again announced he was coming back to Australia, it sent his fans crazy as he sold out his gig at the Sydney Opera House in quick time and then continued to pack arenas around the country. But it is his surprise pop-up shows that have been a real hit with fans who have managed to snag tickets! One pom who has been far harder to track down has been Kate Middleton, who, after having surgery, has disappeared… except for one dodgy photo, the mystery continues. Paddy’s Day is always a good excuse to have a couple of drinks. All around the country pubs and bars were turning green and selling pints of Guinness at record levels. Hope you pulled up alright on Monday?
The Suns Are Shining Brightly
We might only be into round 2 of the AFL season, but the ladder looks to be upside down as both Sydney teams are sitting in the top 3. More of a surprise is seeing The Gold Coast Suns sitting 3rd with a 2 from 2 record! Meanwhile, in horse racing, the All-Star Mile, held at Caulfield this year, saw the odds-on fave Mr Brightside suffer defeat for the first time this season as Pride of Jenni made all to claim a stunning victory in the invitational race. Elsewhere in the US, the lights went out early for the Sydney-born UFC fighter Tai Tuivasa, who was defeated via first round submission by Marcin Tybura.

The Fortune Feed – March 4th-10th
G’day, your mate Joe Fortune here again with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 4th – 10th March 2024. With the Demon winning and the Demons losing, MAFS drama, and Switzerland becoming a live chance for the Golden Slipper, there’s plenty to catch up on. Here is a brief look back at the latest headlines with my quick review on the hot topics, latest Aussie sport, and entertainment.
Demon’s Love Demons Lose.
Tennis star Alex de Minaur, known as Demon, had quite 24 hours.. First up the World No. 9 defended his title at the Mexican Open before putting celebrations on hold. The victorious Aussie then made the call to fly straight to San Diego and support his pommie girlfriend Katie Boulter, who won her first WTA 500 tournament. Now, that’s Game, Set and Match to Love!
Talking of Demons, it was always going to be a tough start for Melbourne in this season’s AFL opener away to Sydney. In a lively encounter, it was the Swans that won 86-64, meaning that the Demons will have history against them if they’re to go on a win the Grand Final…
Married at First Fright…
Channel 9’s social experiment is starting to get a bit bloody scary as wife Sara, whose anger and tantrums put the collywobbles on her husband Tim, has been issued a straight up warning of her behaviour at last Sunday’s commitment ceremony. The show’s expert came out and said that she’s good as ‘undateable’, before going on to say, “Sara, here’s an important point… friends don’t get naked and have sex”. Jeez, good luck Tim! Elsewhere, Tori has vowed to stick by her controversial fella Jack, despite his recent comments and alleged flirtatious behaviour with another wife in the experiment. Put a muzzle on it, Tori!
More Gold for Switzerland?
Racing fans would have enjoyed a ripper of a weekend as Switzerland moved into contention and is now 2nd fav for the Golden Slipper after winning the Todman Stakes at Randwick. Meanwhile, at Flemington, there were emotional scenes as Jamie Kah fired Cylinder to victory, springing a surprise in taking out the Newmarket Handicap.
And if that wasn’t enough, racing fans then enjoyed seeing history being made at Menangle Park as the latest trotting superstar, Leap to Fame, landed the Triple Crown, as he took out the Miracle Mile under the steering of driver Grant Dixon.

The Fortune Feed – February 26th-March 3rd
Joe Fortune here with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 26th Feb – 3rd March 2024. It’s been quite a few days for us Aussies with the ‘NRL hits Vegas’, ‘Kylie does a shoey’, and ‘Mardi Gras brings colour to Sydney’ all in the headlines from the last 7 days. Here’s my quick review on the hot topics, latest Aussie sport, and entertainment news.
Women Winning
Who could forget the Matildas’ run to the semi-finals of the soccer World Cup last year? Well, good news as the women are ready to go again, having qualified for the Olympics in Paris later this year by thumping Uzbekistan 10-0 at Marvel Stadium. Also, overseas in the UK, there was more Aussie success to enjoy as Kylie Minogue was awarded with a ‘global icon’ Brit Award for her long career in the music industry. She celebrated in true style by accepting requests to do a ‘shoey’ and down a beer from her stiletto. Good on ya’ and cheers Kylie!
Green and Gold
After all the hype and build up, the NRL season kicked off in Vegas over the weekend, and it didn’t disappoint. Both contests were beauties, and jeez, they were fiery encounters where the outsiders won both games. First up, Manly put the Rabbitohs to the sword in a thrilling 36-24 win, then, in an even bigger shock, last season’s beaten finalist, the Broncos, were beaten 20-10 by the Roosters. The first-round matches continue this Thursday back in Australia.
Over in New Zealand, a masterclass from Cam Green, who scored a stunning 174 not out, helped our Aussie men smash the Kiwis by 172 runs in the first test match of the 2-game series. The win was secured as the GOAT, Nathan Lyon, took 10 wickets in the match, including a 6-fer in the second innings.
Sparkling in Sydney
Sydney was alive with colour last weekend as the annual Mardi Gras party brought music, smiles, and celebrations to Oxford Street. With over 120,000 people lining the streets to watch the parade. I reckon they’ll still be clearing up all that confetti and glitter for a few days yet! Just down the road at Randwick, there was another stunning display on show as Storm Boy strolled to victory in the Skyline Stakes. Already one of the most talked about horses in the country, the unbeaten 2YO colt has cemented his place as the red-hot favourite to win the Golden Slipper at Rosehill later in the Autumn.

The Fortune Feed – Feb. 19-25
G’day, your mate Joe Fortune is here with my ‘Week in Review’ for 19th Feb – 25th Feb 2024. There’s been a bit going on with the Taylor Swift’s Eras tour continuing, along with a mankini hitting the headlines, so here’s the latest on hot topics, Aussie sports, and entertainment news.
Rose in Bloom
Eventing and Show Jumping doesn’t often hit the news, so it’s been a surprise to see three-time Olympic equestrian rider Shane Rose in the spotlight. At a competition last week Shane Rose decided to bring some colour to the event and competed in a Duffman beer suit and a gorilla suit, but it was his mankini which caused him issues. A spectator didn’t like what she saw and complained about the Aussie wearing the skimpy item, known around the world due to it being in the film Borat. Jeez, thankfully sense has prevailed following an investigation as Rose was cleared and is all good to head to the Olympics later this year, no doubt with a few more clothes on!
TayTay Boom
After all the hype about Taylor Swift’s concerts in Australia it looks like it’s given the economy a massive boost of over $2billion – spend it wisely, Albo! After fans filled the MCG for 3 nights Tay Tay has gone on to not only fill up the Accor Stadium but had thousands of Swifties headed to Homebush to buy themselves plenty of merch before then just hanging out and listening to their hero from outside the venue.
Whilst the US singer might not have performed in Canberra, that didn’t mean she didn’t have an impact there last week as on Friday, the appropriately named racehorse TayTay Bay won at Thoroughbred Park giving the local punters a nice little fill up.
Always look on the Brightside of Life
As we head into Autumn, the top thoroughbreds are coming back into action, and this past weekend we saw some of the best horses going about their business. Wow, how bloody good did Mr Brightside look in the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield… After 2 wins from 2 this season, he’s well fancied to make it 3 in the All-Star Mile next month.
Over in the UK, there was a controversial shock result as the Pom’s team Wigan beat Penrith 16-14 in the annual World Club Challenge. With the Warriors being awarded a dodgy try and the Panthers denied one, let’s just say that home advantage helped!

The Fortune Feed: February 12-18
How are you all going… Joe Fortune back with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 12th Feb – 18th Feb 2024. There’s been plenty going on over the past week, so just in case you missed out, here’s your easy, quick, and unmissable summary on the latest hot topics, Aussie sports, and entertainment news.
Touch-Down Under
The week kicked off in Vegas with Super Bowl 58, and whilst it wasn’t a high scoring match the drama didn’t disappoint as Kansas City Chiefs scored a touchdown in the last second of overtime. Taylor Swift didn’t take too long to head down and join her boyfriend Travis Kelce on the pitch to celebrate the historic win. But she couldn’t hang around and party for too long as fans in Melbourne were ready and waiting to enjoy the start of Swift’s Eras tour in Australia, which got underway last week at the MCG.
Talking of musicians in Aus, it’s been a while, but the mighty Simple Minds have continued their latest tour down under. Last week saw the band perform in Melbourne as well as heading to Adelaide and then to the Gold Coast. I think most of you can guess which gig I’d prefer to be at!
Albo’s Valentine Yay
Who needs to be watching MAFS when your PM delivers you the real thing? On Valentine’s Day Albo proposed to his partner Jodie Haydon, who said yes! There is no indication on when or where the wedding will be, but I reckon I can be sure that your mate Joe will not be getting an invite.
Jeez, he wasn’t the only poli to be in the news this last week. What about former National’s leader Barnaby Joyce? Now, I don’t mind having a few cold ones but… to finish up on a public footpath in the middle of Canberra lying on your back and swearing away on a school night isn’t a good look. Fair play though, as he seemed to have made a quick recovery, the next day he was fronting up and answering questions from the media. Apparently, it was his prescription medication that was to blame…
Hitting Well Hard
If you blinked, you missed it, as Glenn Maxwell walloped the fastest t20 international century in Australia with what can only be described as a bloody awesome innings at the Adelaide Oval. Maxy was simply unstoppable as he brought up his ton in just 50 balls, and yeah, it goes without saying that the Aussies won the match against the Windies.

The Fortune Feed: February 5-11
How are you going, punters? Joe Fortune here with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 5th Feb – 11th Feb 2024. If you’ve not read my feed before, where have you been? This is your easy, quick, and unmissable summary on the latest hot topics, Aussie sports, and entertainment news.
Smiley Kylie
Early last week, all eyes were on the Grammys where it was business as usual for Taylor Swift as she became the first four-time winner of the Album of the Year. But it’s elsewhere that us Aussies have something to smile about. The ever-youthful Kylie Minogue won her second Grammy Award, some two decades after her first one. Our Aussie superstar claimed the award for ‘Best Pop Dance Recording’ for her hit ‘Padam Padam’. Also the former Mrs Liam Hemsworth, known to the world as Miley Cyrus, won her first ever Grammy, I don’t think us Aussies can claim that one as our own.
Ange in the Pool?
EPL fans won’t have missed the news that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. This sudden announcement continues to leave the media speculating on who will take over, and one name that keeps appearing is big Ange Postecoglou. The Aussie has quickly been embraced by the Spurs’ fans as one of their own, but as a childhood Liverpool fan, rumours persist that he is on the shortlist to leave London and head north at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, in the NRL, there is some relief as the teams heading to Vegas for the season opener have ticked all the right boxes with officials at the US Embassy. I can confirm that all players have finally got their visas to enter the country. Jeez, for a while, it looked like the ‘Vegas Dozen’ weren’t going to be allowed into the US for the groundbreaking matches in a couple of weeks’ time.
TV is Hotting Up
As we head into Autumn, the TV wars hot up again, and MAFS is back with its usual drama. Both Jack and Timothy lying about sex – strewth there’s a surprise. But don’t worry, as Cassandra and Tristan are going alright so far! Just quietly, I’m relieved that elsewhere, Andy Lee has returned with his merry crew of celebs as the latest season of The Hundred has started. It’s great that we get to see what real Aussies thoughts are without tears and tantrums.

The Fortune Feed: January 29-February 4
I’m back punters! Joe Fortune here with my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 29th Jan – 4th Feb 2024. The summer holidays might be over, but there’s still plenty going on as we head into Autumn. So here’s my quick catch up on all the latest hot topics, Aussie sports, and entertainment news.
Better Than Sex
Jeez, it’s back again, and Married At First Sight, known by viewers as MAFS, is delivering more tears and tantrums along with all the weddings, bombshells, and dinner parties. Fans of the show won’t be disappointed this time round, as food-loving, party girl Lauren has already set the scene and created plenty of headlines. She’s made a strong claim to any future husband that her homemade schnitty is better than a certain type of sex! Having been set up with Richard, the oldest person ever to be on the show, this is definitely one partnership viewers will be watching with big interest.
Strewth, that’s all a bit much for mine, so I’ll level you; this is more my sort of TV. After years of enjoying the Pommie version of Tipping Point, we now have our own Aussie version hosted by Todd Woodbridge. The new show launched last week, and it seems like the former tennis player has been given an unlimited budget to tempt players to go for the jackpot. There’s plenty of extra cash and holidays being offered up and with an audience encouraging players to gamble, it certainly gets my vote.
Windies become Lose-ies
After shocking the Aussies at the Gabba in the final test match, the West Indies couldn’t conjure up another surprise as Australia showed its dominance in the ODI series. In game 1 at the MCG, it was Xavier Bartlett taking 4 wickets along with Steve Smith’s unbeaten 79 that saw the Aussies cruise to victory.
Then at the SCG, it was the ‘Sean Abbott Show’ as the all-rounder smashed 69 runs, took 3 wickets, and claimed 2 catches. This standout performance helped the Aussies win by 83 runs and claim the series with one match to play in the best of three.
Sizzling in Autumn
Bugger, just as most of our Aussie holidays were coming to an end, then mercury decides to shoot up. El Nino, that’s the hot weather, has been predicted to stick around until well into April, so don’t put your suncream or caps away just yet!

The Fortune Feed: January 22-28th
Joe Fortune back with you again delivering my latest ‘Week in Review’ for 22nd – 28th January 2024. Here’s my quick and easy to read review with all the latest Aussie sports and entertainment news, hot topics, and other fair dinkum, need-to-know stories.
Sydney gets Bashed by the Heat
The new format BBL ended on Wednesday night where we saw the Sydney Sixers get thumped by the Brisbane Heat at the SCG to win BBL13. It was the Heat’s second win in the tournament.
KAYO saw record levels of streaming this season with the most watched moment of the regular season being Aaron Finch’s final match between his side Melbourne Renegades against the Melbourne Stars.
Other cricket news saw the Aussie Men’s team lose the second and final Test Match of the series against the West Indies at the Gabba. In one of the biggest shocks in recent Test Match Cricket the Windies pulled off a surprising 8 run win to level the series 1-1 against all the odds.
Sinner Sinner Carrot Dinner!
What a couple of weeks of tennis we’ve been treated to in Melbourne, in the blink of an eye the Aussie Open has been and gone as Jannick Sinner overcame the 10 times champ Novak Djokovic in the semis before landing his first Grand Slam win in a five-set thriller against Daniil Medvedev in the Men’s Final. Elsewhere Aryna Sabalenka destroyed all before her as she retained the Women’s Open title in stunning style. The Belarusian was in a league of her own, winning the Aussie Open without dropping a set.
Barbie Gets Busted
Despite the enormous box office success Aussie superstar Margot Robbie has been surprisingly snubbed for a nomination in her role as Barbie in the leading actress category at this year’s Oscars. But don’t feel too bad as we’ve got some more winners to toast…
Doja Cat Dominates
The time-honoured Triple J’s Hottest 100 was taken out this year by the bookmakers’ fave Doja Cat with her single Paint the Town Red. The US rapper saw off Melbourne-born G Flip who finished in second spot with their hit The Worst Person Alive. The other winner announced over the weekend was the Great Australian Beer SpecTAPular Top 100, known as GABS. This year the NSW brewery Mountain Culture with its Status Quo Pale Ale retained its position as the top tipple ahead of Queensland’s Balter Brewery with its XPA and the Canberra-based brewery Bentspoke with their Crankshaft IPA.

The Fortune Feed – January 15-21st
G’day, how are you going? Joe Fortune here bringing you my ‘Week in Review’ for 15th – 21st January 2024 with a quick look at the latest Aussie entertainment news, hot topics, and an update on how my mate J Webby has been going.
Sport
Week 1 of the Australian Open tennis saw Alex di Minaur leading the way for us Aussies in reaching Round 4 before losing out in a thriller to the charismatic fifth seed Rublev. Elsewhere despite a couple of tricky opening rounds Novak Djokovic is into the quarter finals as he continues his quest for an 11th title.
Over in the Women’s Singles, the shock of week 1 came when the world number one, Iga Swiatek, was knocked out in round 3 leaving the draw wide open. As week 2 gets underway both Gauff and last year’s winner Sabalenka are looking good, and I reckon the conqueror from their potential semi-final clash might well lift the trophy. Don’t forget you can enjoy all the action on Channel 9 and STAN Sports.
After all the talk about who stole David Warner’s Baggy Green Cap it’s been nice to be focusing on how Steve Smith would go as an opening batter against the West Indies. The jury is still out for mine, but after a thumping 10 wicket victory it was a good week for the Aussie team, let’s hope for more of the same in Brisbane later this week.
Entertainment News
At the Emmy Awards there was Aussie joy as Sarah Snook went better than her two previous nominations and won the outstanding leading actress for her role as Shiv Roy in Succession. In other news, the Australian-made and recently released Boy Swallows Universe has quickly become a global phenomenon on Netflix, sure it’s a bit weird but certainly worth giving it a watch.
Hot Topic of The Week
The New York Times has just listed it’s top 52 spots to visit in 2024 and it’s great to see two places in our great country featuring as both Tassie and Brisbane get on the coveted list… you beauties!
J Webby Can Eat Update
I’ve given my mate J Webby a couple of challenges recently whilst he is holidaying in Hawaii. First up see how he goes try to eat a dozen Malasadas and if that doesn’t fill him up I then gave him 12 Musubis to try and munch his way through. Jeez, he has got some appetite that’s for sure! To stay up to date you can visit https://www.jwebbycaneat.com/ for his next events.
