Your mate Joe Fortune here, providing you with a ripper guide on a few ideas on what to get up to this New Year’s Eve including a brief visit to all our main cities. With loads going on, we’re spoilt for choice on how to celebrate whether it’s having a barbie on the beaches of Sydney, a festive latte in Melbourne, or enjoying a more laid-back tropical vibe in Darwin, there’s something for everyone.
Staying Home and Hosting
This year I’ll be hosting mates and neighbours at my place and saving a few bucks. It goes without saying that I’ll have my beer fridge full of lagers, ales, seltzers and some ginger beers.
The esky will be loaded up with Aussie made bubbles and white wines, and of course I’ll have to make sure there are few reds to go with the barbie I’ll be laying on. Before we get there, I’ll be putting out a few prawns, cheeses, corn chips, dips and of course cheezels! As usual I’ll be getting snags, burgers and steaks on the flames and whilst I am doing this, I love to get the party vibes in full effect by getting my guests to try out Fruit Party. This 7×7 grid pokie is a cluster style game which you can play from just 20c per spin. I’ve a few mates coming over who prefer to play with bitcoin, so the good news is that I’ve let them know they can use a whole host of cryptocurrency, as Joe Fortune is the best crypto casino out there. Which I know they’ll be bloody stoked to hear!
Sydney, The Harbour Bridge Fireworks
When it comes to New Year’s Eve, you don’t really need me to say how Sydney is world-famous for its fireworks display. The iconic midnight fireworks over Sydney Harbour, with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge as the backdrop, are well worth experiencing at least once. Thousands gather around Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and in the Botanic Gardens to watch the pyrotechnics go off. If you’re planning to go it is worth getting your tickets in advance. There is also an earlier display at 9pm local time to entertain families with younger children or those of you who want to head off to your own parties away from the CBD. Of course, all the action can be viewed live on TV if the crowds and travel is a bit hectic for you.
Melbourne, NYE with a Creative Twist
When it comes to New Year’s Eve, the Docklands and Southbank areas offer some of the best viewing points to see the city’s fireworks. These spots also host live music, outdoor bars, and family-friendly activities that add to the vibrant atmosphere. Southbank, with its riverside dining and views, is ideal for those of you who are looking to bring in the new year with fine food. Talking of fine food, who doesn’t like some of our wonderful fresh fish and the likes from the sea… with that in mind how about trying out my Lobster Bobs Seafood and Win It pokie? With loads of feature games including the chance to win up to 30 Free Spins, this is well worth playing this New Year’s Eve.
Brisbane, Smiles in the Sunshine State
Brisbane’s celebrations are another big drawcard. The fireworks display along the river is one of the biggest events of the year, and loads of people gather at the Riverstage in the Botanic Gardens to enjoy live music, food trucks, and entertainment before watching the midnight fireworks. This event is family-friendly and has an earlier fireworks display for those of you with children. Whether you’re enjoying the festivities from a riverside restaurant or joining the crowd at the Riverstage, Brisbane is an easy-going yet exciting city to see in 2025.
Adelaide, Sunsets and Picnics
On New Year’s Eve, Glenelg Beach hosts an amazing celebration. The beachside suburb is known for its laid-back atmosphere, but during New Year’s Eve, it transforms with live entertainment, fireworks, and activities. It’s a great spot for a relaxed celebration, with a picnic by the beach as the sun sets, and the fireworks light up the sky. If after all the displays you are still craving more fun, then give my Wild Fireworks pokie a go to see in the New Year.
Hobart, Fresh Fun
If you’re in Tassie there’s a fair dinkum New Year’s Eve to be had, with the highlight being the fireworks over the Derwent River. You can also enjoy the festivities along the waterfront or from the iconic Salamanca Place and of course the pubs are also well worth dropping into for a couple of cold ones.
Perth, Quayside Celebrations
Perth, a charming, warm and easy-going city and during the festive season, Kings Park is one of the best spots to enjoy your New Year’s Eve celebration in Perth. Visitors gather for a picnic with for ripper views of the city skyline, with colourful lights, culminating in a fireworks display at midnight.
Elizabeth Quay is another destination to consider for New Year’s Eve celebrations, with live music, food trucks, and a lively atmosphere. Whether you’re enjoying a local beer or cocktail on the waterfront or watching the fireworks over the Swan River, the quay side is one of the best places to get into the city’s festive spirit.
Canberra, Cultural Riches
Regatta Point is the location for New Year’s Eve celebrations, visitors and locals gather by Lake Burley Griffin to take in the live music, try out food stalls, and, of course, the fireworks display at midnight. If you enjoy visiting lakes then I suggest you give my Big Bass Secrets of the Golden Lake pokie a few spins. This 5×3 game is a classic and worth giving a nudge to.
Our capital offers a different and more intimate celebration compared to the large-scale fireworks displays in other cities. For another cultural experience, you can relieve your youth and explore the National Museum or National Gallery, which often hold special exhibitions over the holiday season.
Darwin, Tropical Delights For your New Year’s Eve, the waterfront area comes alive with food trucks, live music, and fireworks. The city offers a tropical twist on the traditional New Year festivities, and you can enjoy a fun-filled evening while watching the fireworks light up the sky over the Arafura Sea. Whatever you do and wherever you go it just remains for me, Joe Fortune, to wish you a Happy New Year!
