The Fortune Feed: Piastri’s Big Win & Swans’ First Victory

My ‘Fortune Feed’ for 24th March 2025 looks at a stunning Formula 1 victory for Oscar Piastri in the China Grand Prix, as well as the Sydney Swans winning its first game of the season. So, here’s your mate Joe Fortune bringing you the latest trending topics, Aussie sports news, and the hottest entertainment updates.

Oscar’s Chinese Takeaway

Oscar Piastri won the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix, claiming his third F1 career win in emphatic style. After a disappointing ninth-place finish in the Australian Grand Prix last week, where he was dominated by his McLaren teammate Lando Norris, the 23-year-old Aussie was keen to make amends this time around in Shanghai. Starting on pole for the first time, Piastri didn’t buckle under the pressure and despite Mercedes’ George Russell attempts early on, before then being challenged by Norris, the Aussie put in a near performance to win the race and put himself up to fourth on the drivers’ ladder. His McLaren team is currently leading the constructors’ championship.

Geroge Russell filled the podium positions, with reigning world champion Max Verstappen coming fourth for Red Bull. The Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Sprint Race winner Lewis Hamilton finished in fifth and sixth spot, but after the race, both drivers were disqualified after issues were found with the setups of their cars. It was a better day for our other Australian, Jack Doohan, who managed to finish the race with a 15th-place finish. He ended up one position ahead of Kiwi Liam Lawson, whose position in his team remains a hot topic of discussion. The next race of the Formula 1 season is in a couple of weeks’ time in Japan and who would bet against another good drive from Oscar…

Swans Air Bound

The Sydney Swans has recorded its first win of the season under new head coach, Dean Cox, with a narrow victory over Fremantle. Another Aussie who continues to go well is Travis Head, as in the IPL, the opening batter whacked a quickfire 67 off 31 balls to help his side SRH defeat the RR in its first game of the tournament.

This year’s Golden Slipper was won by Marhoona, who was the second last horse that got into the Rosehill Gardens’ field. The filly prevailed in a thrilling finish to land the $5 million race at odds of $9. In other horse racing news, the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley, was won by the colt Schwarz at $5.50, defeating the heavily fancied favourite, Jimmysstar.
