This week’s Fortune Feed includes a look back at an action-packed Aussie Grand Prix won by Lando Norris, as well as what we’ve been tucking into on St Paddy’s Day around Australia. So, here’s your mate Joe Fortune bringing you the latest trending topics, Aussie sports news, and the hottest entertainment updates.
Norris Rains in Melbourne
Lando Norris has set the scene for what could be an epic battle against Max Verstappen as he claimed victory in the 2025 Australian Grand Prix. The start of this year’s Formula One season could not have been more dramatic as the rain fell. There were endless pitstops, many crashes, and the safety car driver certainly earned their wages!
The drama began before the race even got underway as Racing Bulls’ new recruit Isack Hadjar put his car into the barriers on the formation lap at just turn two and was out of the race and delayed the start by 15 mins. Reckon his career can only get better from here…
Norris looked good throughout the race, but his McLaren teammate Aussie Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen were always in the hunt too. True to form, you can’t predict the weather in Melbourne and just as it was improving and teams made the switch to slick tyres for the second half of the race, a heavier rain shower drenched the track again. This saw both McLarens going off the track and forced most drivers to pit again for the right tyres.
While Norris remained in control thereafter and managed to keep his car on the circuit, sadly Piastri spun off. Losing valuable time as he tried to recover. This handed the lead briefly to Verstappen, who after he had changed tyres came out in second place and remained there ahead of Piastri.
Our other Australian driver, Jack Doohan had a tough day as he had a first lap crash at Albert Park. It was only the 22-year-old’s second ever Formula One race after debuting towards the back end of last year. He now finds himself under pressure as his team Alpine has a strong reserve driver. Let’s hope things go better for Jack in China this weekend.
Going Green
Every year St Patrick’s Day gets bigger and bigger around Australia and this year we drank more Guinness than ever before but the current Irish trend taking off is the ‘Irish Spice Bag’ which saw orders going through the roof. In soccer news, after 70 years without a major trophy Newcastle United has finally won one, it downed Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley to win the Carabao Cup.
